The 2014 edition of the Top PC Games
list is finally here with some great PC games that everyone should try
out. 2014 like previous years had its fair share of blockbuster releases
but there were quite a few indie and crowdfunded games that crack the
top 10 games of 2014. So without further delay here is the list of my
best PC games of 2014.
1. Wasteland 2

Wasteland 2, The sequel we waited over 25 years for did not disappoint and finds itself as my Game of the Year winner for 2014. The post-apocalyptic sequel that was a run away kickstarter success was released in September 2014 and has been also been a commercial success. Set some fifteen years after the original Wasteland, players control a part of new Desert Ranger recruits who are assigned to find out who or what is behind the murder of long time Desert Ranger named Ace. Like its predecessor, Wasteland 2 contains dozens of different skills characters can focus on, coupled with the open world and open ended story, the game has a good amount of replayability.

Coming in as the number two PC game of 2014 is Dragon Age Inquisition, the third title in the Dragon Age series, it returns many game play elements of the first game of the series as well as the second, while removing many of the annoyances that found their way into Dragon Age 2. The result is a game with excellent balance and game play, but what makes Dragon Age Inquisition shine is its rich non-linear storyline and campaign. Player's decisions have an impact in so many ways to teh out come of the game. More Info

Arguably the first blockbuster release of 2014 was one of the best and comes in at number three of the best PC games of 2014. Winner of dozens of awards at its E3 2013 unveiling, Titanfall is set many centuries in the future In it players control mech warrior style "pilots" in an online multiplayer battlefield that pits two factions against each other. Included with the initial release are 15 multiplayer maps, more than 30 weapons to choose from and support for up to twelve players per match. It features an original storyline that allow players the freedom to drive and change the story, turn based combat, classless characters which allow players to customize their characters to their liking combing weapons, skills and magic that are not determined by a pre-defined set of rules. It also features a co-operative multiplayer mode and a toolkit editor that allows for community created adventures. More Info

5. Elite Dangerous

Elite: Dangerous is the fourth game in the Elite series of video games and comes in as my fifth best game on the top PC games of 2014. It is set some 45 years after the events of the previous game, Frontier First Encounters, in the year 3300. Players will pilot a space craft and explore an open world, persistent world that is based on the Milky Way galaxy. The game includes both a single player game play option as well as a massively multiplayer option in which player actions will impact the persistent world. Elite: Dangerous is the direct sequel to the third game in the series Frontier: First Encounters which was released back in 1995. The game was funded via a successful Kickstarter back in 2012.

The world of J.R.R. Tolkein had success in 2014 with both the release of the third and final Hobbit film as well as finding a spot on the list of top PC games for 2014. Middle-Earth Shadow of Mordor is an action role playing game in which the story takes place between the events of the Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings novels. In it players control Talion, a ranger of Gondor who possesses special wraith like abilities, in his quest to defeat the Black Hand of Sauron. The game includes character customization and an open game world that includes a "Nemesis system" which recalls player encounters with other characters and adjusts how those characters interact with players for through the game.

7. This War of Mine

This War of Mine is not only one of the top PC games of 2014 it is also one of the most unique games you will probably ever play. The game follows a group of civilians as they try to survive in a war torn city, which is based on the city of Sarajevo during the Bosnian War of the mid 1990s. Players will have to monitor and control various civilians with no survival or military experience. They must manage character's health, food, mood and general survival until a cease fire is declared. During the day time players will be confined to indoors where they can upgrade shelter, cook food or heal survivors. At night players can have citizens venture outside to search for resources needed for survival.

Sid Meier's Civilization Beyond Earth is an offshoot of the Civilization series of strategy game that puts players in control of a faction who has traveled beyond earth and tries to establish a new civilization. It includes many features from Civilization V including the hexagon grid game map but also includes unique features such as a non-linear tech tree which players will have to pick and choose technology paths. Beyond Earth is the spiritual successor to Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri.

11. Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel!

Rounding out the top 10 PC games of 2014 is the third title in the Borderlands series of action games is Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel! The sci-fi first person shooter is set between the timelines of Borderlands and Borderlands 2. The story revolves around four characters who were non-playable henchmen of Handsome Jack from the previous games. It includes new game play features but remains very similar to that of Borderlands 2. There are new types of items which are laser guns and items with a cryogenic effect that can slow or freeze enemies. Other new features include Gravity effect on motion, double jumps, ability to hover and more.
